Who can participate?
Any California resident aged 65 or older with a working phone line (mobile or landline) can use this free service.
Have a valid phone number (mobile or landline).
Provide an alternate contact (preferred but not required).
How does the check-in call work?
65 Check will make an automated call at your chosen time each day between 8 AM and 5 PM. You just need to answer and confirm you’re okay by by speaking I'm OK" or by pressing a button on your phone.
What if I don’t answer the call?
65 Check will try to reach you up to three times.
If you still don’t answer, we’ll call your alternate contact if you have one.
Reach out to your alternate contact, if one is provided.
If there’s no response from either, notify local non-emergency services (e.g., sheriff’s office) if live call fails to connect.*
Who should be my alternate contact?
Your alternate contact should be someone reliable, like a family member, friend, or neighbor, who can check on you if needed.
Can I pause calls if I’m away or sick?
Yes, you can place a temporary hold on calls by contacting us at (833) 65CHECK. Holds can last up to 30 days. Please let us know at least three days in advance if you need this.
Is 65 Check an emergency service?
No, 65 Check is not a substitute for calling 911. If you’re in an emergency, please call 911 directly.
How can I change my information?
To update your phone number, call time, or alternate contact, call (833) 65CHECK. Changes may take up to three days to take effect.
Can I stop using 65 Check if I want?
Yes, you can opt out at any time by calling (833) 65CHECK. It may take up to seven days to complete your request.
Does 65 Check support other languages?
Currently, the calls are in English only, but other languages may be added in the future.
Will the call come from the same number every day?
Yes, the call will come from the same number daily.
